The Secret's Out

This was an illustrated story that appeared in cereal:geek magazine (I can't remember which issue anymore, sorry). It was written by James Eatock, and it was intended to evoke the look of tie-in paperbacks that we used to read when we were kids (although the cel shading gives this a somewhat more contemporary look).

Some of these illustrations were spreads or full-pagers that had text overlaid onto them. I've trimmed the illustrations so that no story text appears here.

The Secret's Out, 1The Secret's Out, 2The Secret's Out, 3The Secret's Out, 4The Secret's Out, 5The Secret's Out, 6The Secret's Out, 7The Secret's Out, 8The Secret's Out, 9The Secret's Out, 10The Secret's Out, 11The Secret's Out, 11/2The Secret's Out, 12The Secret's Out, 13The Secret's Out, 14

This was a ton of fun to illustrate. Was it entirely legal to publish? Eh... probably not. There's a lot of wiggle room for editorial usage of protected characters, and there was kind-of a framing narrative for the piece where it was being reported on as a She-Ra fan fiction that James had written long, long ago, and rediscovered... but thankfully the small press doesn't draw the ire of big rights-holders too often, and fun fan-art projects like this do have a chance to entertain and inspire.

This page should be indexed at the comics index.
