A digital painting of a pizza delivery scooter concept.
Boromugi's Scooter (class demonstration piece) Digital

I produced this scooter concept as a demonstration piece for my illustration students. I give an assignment in our visual development unit where students must write a character brief and design three props for that character, one of which must be a vehicle or conveyance of some sort. The sample character for my demo assignment was a one-line concept: "Boromugi, the undead pizza delivery cyborg".

Part one of the assignment is to give me ten rough sketches of each item. Because we're under a lot of time pressure for this assignment, I'm okay with very rough sketches. Below are the the examples I gave the class (I only did six – instructor's privilege):

A wide page of pencil sketches of delivery scooter concepts

Then, after consulting with their art lead (me) and selecting one basic design concept of each item, the students need to produce three grayscale renderings of each object in a preexisting style.

Three stylistic variations of one of the scooter designs, each based on a preexisting media property

After one more round of feedback, the students then select and iterate the three items one last time and produce a full colour rendering. We try to cram this all in three days. Fun stuff!

This one should be indexed at the home page, and at year P.
